But when you touch some other architectures/OSes (less widespread), the limits of the "I tested it on Linux and MacOS and it works" are evident.

With respect, you can not understand my point, because I refrained from making the point that I want to make.
In May 2024 I began wondering about a second 'home' (alongside BSD Cafe as a first home). Much thought, over a very long period – I didn't made a final decision until January 2026.
The eight months there (and here and elsewhere) have helped to reshape my thoughts about what it means to be engaged; what makes an instance a community; and so on.
I don't doubt that the intention of the new rule is good, but the essence of the rule – "Do not promote AI" – repels me.
Incidentally, whilst the stabbing post was not serious (I haven't lost my sense of humour), it was a suitably thought-provoking path to discovery of the new rule.
None of what's above is the point.
@grahamperrin That's fair. You're right: I can't understand a point you deliberately haven't made, and I shouldn't pretend that I do.
I was responding to what I thought your concern might be, and explaining why the rule exists. But if that isn't the point, then I won't try to guess what it is.
You are absolutely free to make that point, including if it is a criticism of the rule or of my decision to introduce it. Disagreement with the rule is not against the rule.
And if you'd rather not elaborate, I respect that too.
I still genuinely regret seeing you leave, but I don't want to turn this into an attempt to convince you to stay.

In the ever growing sea of bullshit, bad news and stupidity, it feels even more special when you come across something good.
I definitely would prefer a different ratio for sure but I'm very grateful for every good soul doing good stuff. In recent years more than previously.

The most important thing I learned in my 20s is that being smart doesn't make you special. Eventually you need to learn to try hard and to enjoy learning to do things you're not immediately good at. It turns out that the people who didn't learn this lesson were reading Harry Potter fanfic.

It's impressing me more strongly than ever that the unethical way these bros went about designing social media (and fuck the psychologists/psychiatrists who must have abetted this) really worsened things for people globally by playing to extreme emotion all the time in order to drive traffic and thus drive ad revenue.
Extreme expressions, extreme overblown headlines (and often outright lies that sound more "exciting"), low attention span-catering in editing, vapid "feel good stories" to counter the constant stream of panic they also encourage, variable reinforcement scheme algorithms....
It's fucking awful and I really do think that for folks who use social media in more than occasional way, over decades, it's rewired us to some extent.
I was watching an informative short DW video and noticed how nearly every second featured some kind of cut or animation or "dutch angle" because they were too afraid to trust viewers to just remain there listening to factual info.
