People on here suffer from the same reply-guy mindset that people on every other platform do. You’re not superior. You’re just insulated in your bubble.
gonna need to open her up and look at the wiring, and that’s unlikely to happen in the next few days… but beth chimes is officially part of the family now
finally my watch is as gay as me
Since we are collectively experiencing the brittleness of the domain name system, and the fact that the root DNS records are owned by shitty companies: its a good time to install `quien` which is "A better whois and domain intelligence toolkit"

This week’s heatwave broke records, but there’s relief in sight
Rest easy, Southern California, there’s an end in sight to this week’s record-breaking heatwave.
Downtown Los Angeles broke its daily record Monday at 98 degrees, and tied it two other times in the last week

New on the MAIHT3k newsletter -- how to move away from the untenable, uncomfortable middle ground and towards firm "AI" resistance.

"This year’s Indaba felt like a transformation, moving away from mostly teaching the latest AI algorithms to having more urgent and rigorous discussions about the current state of sovereign African AI."

"The latest CFSv2 model run has this El Niño reaching a maximum Niño 3.4 anomaly of about 4.3°C above the 1991-2020 baseline in November. For historical purposes, the previous record Niño 3.4 anomaly was 2.8°C during the 1997-98 El Niño."

@corpsmoderne I personally kind of like the extra diffraction artifacts in my pictures, shows that the imaging train is _mine_, but I don't think it's wrong to prefer the cleaned up version.
@madjohnroberts yeah my kind of dilemma exactly... I'm not out there to bring the same perfect image as everybody... And I don't like using tools when I've no idea what's in their training dataset... Sounds too familiar...
anyway here's the guy who tells you he is an evil person hacking your system
https://www.nico.schottelius.org/software/gpm2
and miguel de icaza is the microsoft engineer who sucks
https://github.com/telmich/gpm
it's really surreal seeing people joke about hacking your system
@hipsterelectron FWIW, Miguel doesn't work at MS anymore
@SnoopJ @nedbat how surprising that a guy like this would immediately analogize his political opponents to filth and vermin. I wonder where he picked up that intellectual habit.
I am glad that this reduced DHH’s profile, even a little bit, but ultimately this kerfuffle revealed enough to me that I have uninstalled neovim and will hopefully find a fork better suited to my vi needs.
based on my own replies though the idea that the people being mad are not neovim users is 100% cope.
A clarification: Trump didn’t rename Lake Ontario. He directed the executive branch of the US government to lie about the name of Lake Ontario. This is not unusual. He orders his lackeys and subordinates to lie about all kinds of things. It’s still Lake Ontario and Trump is still a liar.
I can keep repeating it, create extra server rules etc but..
AI Agents / LLM bullshit accounts are not allowed on ANY of the service I run
The bs AI hype destroys everything it touches, I won't stand for it
@promovicz it's obviously roman and obviously fascist. i got got when someone who worked in a crybersecurity lab (????) i interned in over freshman summer said "oh yeah arch has package updates out sooner than everyone else". i didn't really give a shit but i thought he seemed cool so whatever. now i just think that's a really fucked up thing to say
@hipsterelectron i suppose you know these rabbit holes as well as i do. the tech world is what it is.
Have I finally learned to ignore pointless interjections? It looks like I have!

our originario ancestors were doing genetics experiments with all sorts of flora because from teosinte they got maíz, aka corn:
the word MAÍZ or MAIZE comes from what my Taíno ancestors called corn:
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zea_mays#Terminolog%C3%ADa
btw lots of autochthonous american words come from the Taíno language: barbecue, hurricane, maize; just to name a few.
