I have been feeling a rising anxiety over the state of the open web and the fediverse - after seeing efforts by politicians all over the world (in Europe too!) to introduce age verification laws for social media.

My way of coping?

Teaching people how to self-host their own Fediverse profile (using the superb #GoToSocial) via #YunoHost.

i claim there's just absolutely no fucking way to bolt on the megaparallelism (i.e. combinatorial logic) of network switching to an x86 cpu board, and that FPGAs are used for this because programming a network switch means programming hardware—literally what FPGAs are specifically made for.

Its a little early to draw conclusions about the impact, but I'd say there's more people who worked in the Blair administration than one might have expected - this may be more about a shallow talent pool (despite the wide range of MPs available)?

I’m anti Big Tech and corporate ownership and control of technology and very much anti capitalism and that’s the lens through which I evaluate and build technology myself. And I will also use any tool available to me while working to dismantle this toxic system and hopefully bring about a more just and fairer one that puts people and our habitat before profits. So, as with everything, ask: who owns and controls it? If it’s technology/data about individuals, it should be owned and controlled by individuals. If it’s technology/data about the commons, it should be owned and controlled by the commons.
