i have the absolutely funniest type of file system corruption where literally every file is still perfectly readable apparently (just not every time) but df is returning i/o errors so cannot tell how much space is free

@halcy maybe an fsck can fix it? Sounds like filesystem metadata is broken. Might also eat all the remaining files though
