As the end of year approaches, we spent some time to rework the Wrapstodon feature that we first tried last year.
It now collects your yearly data on-demand, does not require admins to enable anything (so it will be available to everyone in December 2026) and you get a nice shareable URL with your yearly summary!
Admins on nightly releases can enable it using the "wrapstodon" feature flag. It has been enabled on mastodon.online and mastodon.social

Okay, it won't make me popular, but I'll say it. I'm not pulling my books off Amazon. Why? I need the money. My books have kept me from poverty in my old age, and I do not believe I would sell enough books elsewhere to do that. I just can't afford to be pure.
I've sold over 1100 books this month so far on Amazon, over 18,000 this year. That gives me enough money to live on, even if I didn't have Social Security or retirement funds. Without it, I'd just be scraping by. Like I said, I can't afford to be pure.
In less than 3 weeks, 2 prominent and beloved figures in both music and entertainment have been murdered at their hands of their own sons. Sons that have struggled with both addiction and severe mental health diseases.
Music lost the legendary operatic singer #JubilantSykes at the start of December… and now #RobReiner and wife. This planet is dissolving* into something incredibly…. unsettling.
TIL that Kenyan workers have been used so much to train AI systems, that standard writing by Kenyan people is often flagged as AI generated while it is not (which means that they can get discriminated for jobs / exams etc)

Edit: many people raised below that the article is talking about texts written in very classically trained English detected as AI generated, which is the case for many Kenyans. It is documented that many Kenyan workers have been hired to train LLMs, but I made an assumption that it was the reason for this detection while it may not be. I pulled all my e-books off Kindle yesterday because of this. It effectively ends my writing career because, despite everyone complaining that Amazon is evil... nobody buys books from the many other stores my books are available on.
I am sad. I am angry. I am *exhausted*.
I am ONE indie author. I am nobody. My protest is utterly meaningless in the face of this ever-expanding AI takeover. Unless all indies do this, and all tradpub authors pressure their publishers to fight Amazon, my pulling my books is not going to do a damned thing to make Amazon stop doing this. All it will do is end whatever tiny little chance I might still have had at having a real writing career.
But I am so sick of AI being shoved into every aspect of my life and not even having the right to opt out of it. This is the ONLY protest I CAN make. So that's what I'm doing. And at least I know they won't be able to use my books this way.

Like, my brother in christ, I fucking know that which is why I'm here, I found it highly fucking unusual and I'd like to figure out what is going on with me.
Same doctor checking my stomach, "what's this?" (Pointing to my hormone patch), and this is immediately after him reading I have an endocrinologist and a deepish voice whilst being "Miss Smith" Couldn't manage to put two and two together to realise it's a hormone patch.
When I explained to him that across my stomach I'd had a temperature of 39.2°C across my stomach (clearly fever level) but for some reason my forehead was reading 36,6°C this doctor started to mansplain to me "fevers affect the whole body. The head is cooler because it's out in the air"
