I first saw this post after following a link up the thread from someone pointing out that making this request immediately after burning all of the Internet Archive’s credibility with the exact set of people who would normally donate was maybe a bad idea.

I didn’t scroll all of the way down but there were a lot of other replies of the same nature.

And now I see this post in the Trending feed and click on it. There are only three replies. I presume this means that the original poster has blocked everyone who is critical of the IA. Which sends a very strong signal that they aren’t going to engage with criticism and are just going to double down.

If there’s anything in IA that you care about, now would be a good time to make sure you have a backup.

[ I presume I will also be blocked soon, which will break the quote toot. If so, the quote is Jason Scott of archive.org asking for 18 TB hard drives because the IA is finding it hard to buy them, and not mentioning that this is because the supply chains for pretty much every component of a computer have been crippled by the bubble that the IA has just started helping to promote. ]

Avoid booking a #flight via #myTrip:

In the case of plastics, it’s complicated. It tends towards a process of dissipating plastics into less-controlled environments. So it might be argued that it is mostly a process of can kicking to future generations.

For metals, the prospects are better but follow the same pattern of degraded usability, albeit with a lower gradient

One of the most useful things I learned working on open source was the ability to usefully cooperate with people who had different goals. Finding the place where our requirements overlap and the things that are necessary for both.

I think a lot of people in the F/OSS ecosystem try to have this mindset but there’s a big difference between working with people whose goals are different from yours and working with people whose goals are completely antithetical to yours. If I want to empower users and you want to kill immigrants and gay people, that isn’t a ‘well, we can at least agree the UI should be better’ situation, that’s a ‘there is no world in which we both get what we want’ situation.

It’s very important to make that distinction.
