When we do this with other people, it is lovely. Literally the stuff of relationships, communities, societies.
But it is also fundamental to how we interpret language and we can't just turn it off. And that is what chatbot purveyors are preying on with their product design.

Ik geef ze geen ongelijk. De droogte en de vraag naar #goud wordt allebei door het (wereldwijde) kapitalisme veroorzaakt. Wij willen allemaal smartphones, laptops en datacenters hebben. En daar is goud en andere mineralen voor nodig. In #CentraalAfrika was er gisteren nog een ongeluk in een goudmijn (https://apnews.com/article/mine-collapse-central-african-republic-cameroon-b401a828ab1b66c671dbdde83138e77a) en in de D.R. #Congo is dit al jaren het geval. Dit is geen vacuum, wij zijn allemaal onderdeel van deze ellende. Ook als je een #Fairphone of een gelijksoortig apparaat hebt gekocht, of wanneer je geen #AI gebruikt, of extra lang met je elektronische apparaten doet, ze goed recycled, enz, zijn we nog steeds allemaal onderdeel van het probleem, zelfs als we alle miljardairs naar Mars schieten. De enige oplossing is een einde aan het #kapitalisme!
Dit los je niet op met feelgood oplossingen, hoe goed ze ook zijn (ik heb zelf ook een Fairphone, gebruik ook geen AI, enz). Je kunt je schuld niet afkopen. De enige reden dat ik een smartphone en computer gebruik is om contact te houden met de wereld en om zulke activistische berichten te blijven schrijven. Als ik geen activist zou zijn, dan zou ik denk geen nieuwe electronica meer kopen. Heel misschien een oude GMS, zodat ik 112 kan bellen en mensen mij in noodgevallen een SMS kunnen sturen, maar that's it.

@inquiline I've been trying to work out a reply about how there are so goddam many of this kind of guy, it can lead one to despair. But it also makes me so deeply appreciate the distinctiveness, the intense individuality, of everyone here who understands and cares about the problems these guys don't.
