@ripper Fürs EH14 in Stuttgart haben wir für Tschunk und sonstige Getränke unendlich POKAL-Gläser gekauft, weil wir sonst mit dem Abwaschen nicht hinterhergekommen wären.
Waren noch für Jahre vorhanden, inkl einem Laser-Jig für alle, die sie gravieren wollten. Nach dem ersten Jahr wurden sie unbedachten Besucher*innen fast schon mit Taschenspielertricks angedreht … das wird bei euch bestimmt alles anders, weil ihr ja einen Plan habt, wie ihr damit umgeht :)

What i find very worrying is the very real chance that de AfD may be winning the next elections in Germany. It would be the comeback of fascism and nazism. There are no other words to describe it. It would severely weaken the EU at a minimum, destabilize europe. I know some state actors who would consider that a good outcome and will do everything to make that happen.

@FlockOfCats the world wasn't as "globalized" and most people were monolingual and not knowledgeable of other cultures. Nowadays, the former tends to be more prevalent, as people know other cultures more, know (at least a little) other languages (this may not be true for Americans, of course) and translators and publishers think that keeping the original culture's flair is more respectful of the original text as well as more marketable sometimes because of the exoticism factor.
@David @FlockOfCats I definitely prefer the former, ideally with any cultural context being explained in the subtitles (similarly to how context in comic books get described in yellow text boxes like "*hammerspace is an extradimensional and instantly accessible storage area"). If I'm watching something in a foreign language, I definitely don't want them to be talking about my culture, I want them to be talking about theirs.

A question I have is if instances are not typically "communities" (other than admin/moderation-bound groups of accounts), what are the other options for community in the mainstream (Mastodon-style) Fediverse? For me, some hashtags serve that purpose. However, the "community" in this case is unstructured (no organization other than a common tag) and the "governance" is highly decentralized (both at the instance and individual level).

@smallcircles I mostly read hashtag feeds on the Fedi. I follow individual accounts but mostly because #ActivityPub needs the Follows to distribute the tagged messages in an even somewhat reasonably effective manner. Relays or similar (tags.pub) can help too. In any case, I don't tend to read account-level feeds or account list feeds.
Perhaps it is proper #ActivityPub Groups support. Lemmy already calls that "Community". And perhaps the retracted FEP-2100: Unbound Group and Organization to have Groups be independent of instances / multi-instance spanning, can be implemented in mainstream fedi to have a real fedi native concept of Groups (i.e. the abstract concept, not depending on an implementation detail)..
