Hey Australian friends, please sign this petition, I'd hate to loose my legal identity because of some bigots.

@Lizette603_23 Scholarship girl and rich boy fall in love, so he takes her home to meet the rich family. At dinner, she is startled by the number of course, but she deals well enough.
And then.
And then the gas comes. She has to fart *desperately*. She doesn't know what to do.
But she has no choice, so, while laughing at some apercu, she delicately raises a thigh and lets it go.
Silent, thank God, but, sadly, *deadly*.
She looks around in morbid terror.

If you're using Mastodon or one of its forks, you can go to the About page for your host instance, scroll all the way down, click on Profile Directory, select New Arrivals, check out the new accounts, adopt a newbie, boost their intro post, answer their questions, just say hi, be the warm welcome you wish you had gotten, that sort of thing.
@mergesort Yep this is almost exactly how I operate. Slop-cannoning is fine for PoCs or demos, but for everything else I prefer to go a lot slower. Honestly sometimes I'm a 0.8x developer because I'm spending so much time analyzing prod data, weighing pros and cons, researching alternatives… 😆
@nolan I think my process is probably a bit different, but in the same ballpark. I seem to do enough work upfront to slop cannon a working version that’s better than a proof of concept, and then mold that like lump of clay. But on net my work tends to go faster than it was before because the initial boost is so high, even with phases where I’m a 0.8x developer. And then my ambitions tend to grow where I’m doing a lot more than I would have if the code production depended on my hand written code.
For those just joining me as I read IBM and the Holocaust, here's a summary:
* IBM cared foremost about their profits and market dominance
* A racist fascist had regular rallies to denounce foreigners and threatened to take over neighbours
* IBM's technology was being used to harm the fascist regime's targets
* The actual targets varied and broadened regularly
* Profits were booked as royalties and shipped offshore
* IBM was making a lot of $$
* Watson had the President's ear
* It was all legal

If you liked that, these guys also do what I think is the funniest sketch in the history of sketch comedy shows - no hyperbole intended.
Picked up 007 First Light and enjoying it so far, good shit! Still fairly early, but met M and Q! #gaming
Made me think of my dad too as he loved James Bond movies, he’d probably would have tried this game too.
Do not come to the East Side if you are not prepared for some motherfucking truth.
In case I haven't said it lately ...

One thing that unites the Arab and Jewish communities is our love for hummus. And our ability to pronounce it correctly.

I mean I just don't think you're understanding how personal the fear is for me right? I'm not afraid of sleeping because "I won't be producing enough for society." Staying up for 24 hours straight playing videogames is fine with me because I chose to spend my time that way.
When you sleep? You don't get a choice. So sleep makes me nervous because it's time running out of MY hourglass - not because "I coulda been making the line go up."
It really is Masto in a nutshell.
It's interesting thinking of this as a complement (derogatory) to the harassment Caroline Sinders and @inquiline are talking about. Even when it's not a harasser exploiting the architecture to avoid blocking -- or even a violation of community guidelines -- it's still a hostile-to-women environment (with dynmamics that show up in different situations as hostile-to-PO, etc).
It's a cultural issue but it's interesting to think about how a combination of norms, process and tech could make progress on it. For example
a norm that this isn't how we want to be, and in situations like this people from the clueless person's instance get involved to apologize and do the education (instead of putting the responsibility on the OP or a random passerby like me)
a process for an instance having a list people trained to intervene after getting summoned. The intervention doesn't need to be instant, so it's not requiring anybody to wear buzzers or be on call 24/7; and they don't necessarily have to be mods, becuase no elevated privilege is needed.
tech to do the summoning (and maybe also to confirm to the summoner and OP know that yep, got the message, and will get involved)
These are all interesting ideas. IMO first and foremost, a strategy regularly advocated by @inquiline should be at the top of everyone's list - *comment control* . Yes it's a techno-fix and won't solve the problem, but it could certainly mitigate it on many occasions
