A couple updates (all good news) on the Free Fridges:
- Others in my group have taken lead on the free fridges and community pantries. This is amazing as it indicates that my group has grown and is empowered enough that they dont need me to direct them. I'm still involved, but I'm focusing on building out the food rescue side of the house
- Both fridges are going strong! Many neighbors, people we've never met, are stocking the fridge. Other neighbors are utilizing it. And many contribute AND utilize. The infrastructure is working!
- A couple other places in town have expressed interest in hosting more fridges! So we're in talks with them. Irons in the fire! The program is getting noticed and is expanding.
- Lastly (pictured), I installed some grocery bag dispensers at each site. Folks can put in their used "single-use" grocery bags and others can take those and use them to fill up and carry food they utilize from the free fridges!

@tinker What an awesome idea!
First thing that came to mind was, please ensure the fridges are adequately covered/sheltered from the outdoor heat as hotter weather rolls in. Not only will this save energy but will save broken compressors from over-running to keep things cool.

By now you've all probably heard about the latest shenanigans from Google and their love for in-browser AI features (if you don't, this is the story: https://www.theverge.com/tech/924933/google-chrome-4gb-gemini-nano-ai-features).
Our team has been inspecting the Chromium code and disabling stuff from the very first version of Vivaldi (we have some posts about this in our blog, such as https://vivaldi.com/blog/news/alert-no-google-topics-in-vivaldi/ or https://vivaldi.com/blog/no-google-vivaldi-users-will-not-get-floced/).
We've also been very outspoken about our dislike of the built-in AI trend in the browser industry, but in case there's still any doubts: yes, we disable all Gemini-related features, and we've been doing it for a while.

I think it is a bit of an overkill for most people, but I justify it by also running a few dozen accounts on it with a large number of followers.

If you do want to run your own server, I would recommend to either set it up on https://masto.host, so that you don't have to worry about managing the server yourself, or maybe look into https://gotosocial.org, which is cheaper to run (but not too sure how easy to update/maintain).
Other than that, I do like omg.lol a lot, as you get a *ton* for what you pay them, as you probably know.

I heard more from Disc-Soft, the maker of Daemon Tools, which was backdoored by suspected Chinese-language hackers and used to compromise thousands of users.
Disc-Soft tells me the backdoor was "limited to the free DAEMON Tools Lite" and v12.6 removes the backdoor; investigation ongoing.
