"Primarily I don't let not knowing the skill stop me from making what I want to make."
I think that is a very good point to make.
Some students got this large banner printed for me just to be silly. I didn't ask for it and they were all delighted to have put it together.
For the record, that is my head, but those are not my arms or legs.
@brianb That's so awesome! :)
the guy who constantly spreads antisemitic and anti Black conspiracy theories, the guy who single handedly murdered 700k people of color and counting, the guy who makes nazi salutes? he's a nazi.
MONDE DE MERDE
J'ai rattrapé mon retard sur les newsletters, elles sont absolument extra <3 <3 <3

@tinker
That is brilliant.
We often tell folks who want to volunteer, but think they have little to offer, that they just need to turn up and there will be something they can help with, even if it is meet and greet or making sure volunteers have a tea break. Every thing matters.
@Maker_of_Things - Yeah! We had two folks that just sat a table by the entrance, greeted folks, and then pointed them to the correct table for what they needed. There absolutely is a place for everyone!
Mastodon's web interface has a special optional "advanced mode", which is designed for people on computers who want to view several timelines at once. Here's a complete guide to using it including how to switch it on and how to add columns:
➡️ https://fedi.tips/how-to-activate-mastodons-tweetdeck-style-advanced-web-interface
You can use it to have dedicated columns for timelines, accounts, hashtags, lists, bookmarks, favourites, DMs etc.
(If you used to use Twitter, it looks quite similar to the Tweetdeck interface.)
@woozle Btw, this one's Soviet (and current Russian) shape is whataboutism, or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/And_you_are_lynching_Negroes.
@riley Yeah, I've heard of whataboutism -- but I hadn't seen that page ^.^
That particular variety sounds like a cross between a purity test and ad-hominem (with a seasoning of "group accountabiity"): "the speaker belongs to a group in which others are doing very bad things, therefore nothing they say is valid!"
(often used e.g. for destroying pro-Palestine arguments, because Hamas!!! ...and defending Muslims, because terrorism!)
you know what, fuck you takes away your Swiss certification
As I'm waiting to get my old data on my new laptop... I'm relistening to some particularly anti-capitalist or anti-fascist Red Panda episodes.
So far I've heard billionaires not caring which charity they're using using as an excuse to party during The Great Depression, The Red Panda monologing about how he nor anyone shouldn't have inherited the wealth he had, a depiction of the harm of scams based on counterfeit money, some tasty dramatic irony over the coming of WWII, etc.
1/2!
#Mastodon / #feditip: Please don't use URL shorteners, they don't help with saving on character count because web addresses are counted as 23 characters. Many users won't boost or click on shortened URLs because links whose destinations you can't check are considered security risks, and are hostile to screen readers. Transparent and informative URLs are right there in the address bar for your use, there's no need to go through an opaque and potentially insecure shortening service.
A thing I've been working on (well... working on working on, working on designing the machine to lay the bricks for the foundation, kinda) is a means for people to reach consensus on what they actually agree on, in a way that is both as frictionless as possible but also accountable to logic and facts.
TLDR: I'd like to see us defining ourselves less by all-encompassing labels and more by specific, well-examined, clearly-stated principles.
@woozle
yep, its similar to when I argue that we shouldn't be discussing the merits of one policy vs another, we should spend our time discussing what the criteria for goodness of outcome are.
like, I like UBI and a flat tax as a decent compromise position we could implement in normal american government (pre fascist takeover), but its because of specific properties that policy achieves, reduction of income inequality, elimination of tax loopholes so taxes apply more fairly etc
@artemis
TIL if you only sell intangible items over the internet in California, you need to select category "itinerant sales (e.g. food trucks, door to door)".
At least according to the customer service rep I just talked to.
And they say California famous for being leading edge in technology.
@tinker
That is brilliant.
