What kindness have you seen from volunteers?
“At @RepairCafe_Barry we have an Autistic boy who comes in every month with his teddy. One of our volunteers spotted a very similar teddy in a charity shop for £1 and bought it for spare parts as needed.”
What a kind volunteer to be thinking about the repair cafe and that boy specifically while going about their everyday!
Just been to a repair café where I volunteer as a fixer, where I had the pleasure of being able to talk to some members of the public while they waited about Microsoft ending their support for Windows 10, and showing them how Linux is capable of everything they do on their PCs on a day-to-day basis, and that they can save their machines from being thrown out.
My local repair cafés will hopefully be running their own installation events, but @Endof10 is coordinating a global campaign if you want to find an installation event near you.
Our golden rule is "if you can fit it through the doors and it's not a microwave, we'll try and fix it!"
We can't make guarantees but between our volunteers we have a wide variety of skills and expertise.
What will you be bringing to our next event on Saturday 5th July between 10am and 1pm?
Not long til our next repair café! We'll be back at Barry Library this Saturday 7th June with our data inputting superhero, @Uselessgeneration in full force & celebrating her 40th birthday!
She's taken a huge weight off Jo's shoulders by ensuring the forms that you so diligently fill in for us are sent off on the day.
We're open 10am until 1pm to repair your broken items and just be somewhere to socialise, so come along!
Repair Cafe International has now joined the Fediverse!
Give them a warm welcome and make sure to follow them ❤️

My son is looking to get into sewing machine repair as a business. There's demand for it up here. But search engines in 2025 are shite.
Does anyone know any good resources? Things like old manuals, online communities, forums, wikis, YouTube channels.
For example, he's got a 1928 Singer that's binding. He seems to have good instincts about what's wrong with it, but he's been unable to find a manual. He's got several others he's tinkering with, and wants understand them and become the go-to person in this area with all the knows.
I've directed him to archive.org but I suspect it might not be organized on this topic and it won't offer much community.
Any resources would be appreciated!

Reminder, #RepairCafe#Cowbridge is this Saturday from 10am until midday.
A mix of our volunteers and other amazing people will be there to help you.
At our April café Sarah did a great job fixing an accessibility aid for one of our attendees.
Between our talented volunteers they've managed to fix all manner of accessibility aids for locals, so if yours needs some TLC, bring it along to our next repair café on Saturday 7th June at Barry Library.
Heads up, #RepairCafe#LlantwitMajor is this Saturday from 10am until midday.
Many of our own wonderful volunteers are also at Llantwit.
Our sewing experts were kept very busy at our May café. Ann and Peter had a queue of people waiting for their skills!
Between them they repaired clothing items, soft toys, shopping trolleys, and much more.
We're at Barry library on the first Saturday of every month to fix your items for free - pop it in your diary and tell your friends!
