#Mastodon / #feditip: Please don't use URL shorteners, they don't help with saving on character count because web addresses are counted as 23 characters. Many users won't boost or click on shortened URLs because links whose destinations you can't check are considered security risks, and are hostile to screen readers. Transparent and informative URLs are right there in the address bar for your use, there's no need to go through an opaque and potentially insecure shortening service.

The thing about relying on content warnings to protect yourself is that it requires the cooperation and consensus of everyone in the Fediverse. More effective and realistic is setting up filters. I have a list of filtered words, hashtags, and phrases for things I don't want to see, and it keeps those things off my timeline regardless of other people's choices.
(I suppose this counts as a #FediTip)
🛑 Don't surprise your friends! Use a CW.
CW = Content Warning. It’s the small label you put on a post to hide the text until someone clicks on it.
Why Use It?
Using a CW is simple Love VIBE. It gives everyone the choice to read your post when they are ready. People filter topics (like sad news, politics, or deep emotions) to keep their timeline peaceful.
By labeling your post, you respect their filters and their time. This is how we keep the Fediverse strong and kind—it's Systemic Integrity in action.
How to CW:
1. Click the 'CW' button when you post.
2. Type a short label (Example: 'CW: Politics' or 'CW: Intense Feeling').
✨ Choose Kindness. Use the CW button every time!
Just discovered an amazing search feature in #mastodon !
Use the field "in:library" to search only in the toots you have interacted with some day.
Using this, I just dug out a toot from an exchange I had in mid-2023 in 1 second, and which was lost among a gazillion of other bookmarks.
That this #feditip is fast approaching 200 RTs after just 10 hours suggests mastodon capabilities are not as well advertised or technically brought forward as they should be...anyways, glad this helps, and a very nice feature again !
