During my time at Turing we co-designed a survey to understand what patients' biggest concerns for fairness are when it comes to deployments of 'AI' in healthcare/clinical settings. The results are now out:
We found that the biggest concerns for negatively impacting fairness were a lack of human supervision, lack of clinician input and pre-existing healthcare-biases. Accessibility and the loss of human empathy emerged as extra themes.

I wouldn't underestimate the extent to which Europe generally differs from the US (or the extent to which this difference is disguised by the view from the UK).
It's true of course that neoliberalism and the oligarchy it ultimately implies have made inroads into the European Social Model - due in no small part precisely to it's entanglement with the US system.
But the scale of state ownership and interventions, of private sector regulation and social protections, of the social economy in general, of controls on private sector funding of politics, media ownership, etc, etc, is still almost the reverse of the US - and Europeans generally are, in my experience, very deeply attached to this model, and sceptical about the free-market-free-for-all they see in the US.

Few people in Europe have any concept of the level of precariousness that is day-to-day life in America.
It’s not so much that you might get shot at random going out to lunch or that a minor knee injury means you lose your house and live under a bridge in a shopping cart.
It’s that Americans are numb to this and it’s totally normalized, tempered with the faint and desperate hope that you might get to be the next person who strikes it rich with fuck-you money, as long as you keep buying into the lie and pulling yourself up by your boot straps.

(My mum is who taught me to code - a very long time ago. She was never a professional programmer or anything, she just did it for fun, and (correctly) figured it'd be fun for me too.)

With the help from some great folks here in the Fediverse, I was finally able to get @netbsd installed on both my desktop (Dell Optiplex) and laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad T14). I'm posting this from the desktop! Still unable to to get wireless working on the laptop but I am sure a USB wireless adapter will resolve this. I'm going to give this a try later today.
My move away from my beloved Linux is moving forward. Thank you to Torvalds and other projects who have ruined it for me after 30+ years. It's sad that I'm moving away, but I know it's the right decision (for me, anyway).
Updates coming, and will probably bore you to death.
