how do people like... do things and then keep doing them until they're done instead of "getting scared of things being done and never finishing anything"
… these situations apply.
This is the reason, the Trump regime is coming up with weird terms like “war on drugs” to insinuate there is a war (there is not), and “narco terrorists” to insinuate that civilians can randomly be seen as terrorists (which they cannot).
They are executing civilians who have not been sentenced to the death penalty by a judge in a court of law.
This is murder.

@randahl
Also, Europe has been tagging the word ‘hybrid’ in front of ‘war’ so we can pretend it’s not war and avoid economic shock.

@arstechnica As one of my uni lecturers always used to say, “nearly means not”.

SOUND THE MARACAS!!
We engage in an evolutionary construction that continues a tradition started by our physical world long before we were here, and carried on into computing from its earliest days.
It's also a process that mirrors how creative, explorative work is done.
@juliewebgirl @virtuous_sloth sure, but there is a significant difference between calling something a "war" colloquially, and then formally declaring actual war, which is a move that changes the legality of lethal actions.
"War on drugs"
"Narcoterrorism"
Those terms are not "weird terms" that Trump has come up with.
They both have existed since the 1980's.
What *IS* new is that this year, by executive order, "foreign drug cartels" are now classified as "foreign terrorist organizations".
No new terms, only new designations.
It's not a strong argument if you yourself are coming up with weird conclusions that are not accurate.
Flight stronger.
Couple of years ago we got a new coworker who was really confident but just had this bad habit of making stuff up that sounds good to meet a deadline and seemed incapable of admitting that's what they were doing, so I just never gave them anything to do if I wanted to know something was done right, which is all of the time. No one in the office really talked about them.
Anyway, at a work conference today, we've been told that actually we should be using this lying coworker as much as we can and spending our time checking if what they said is sound as well as doing our own work. This is because it will eventually make us more productive even if it appears to slow us down to start with. The coworker is here to stay with the promise they will definitely get better at some point and all the money going to them will pay off at some point so we need to learn to get the most out of them.
For instance, a presenter at the conference had asked our lying coworker to pick a number from 1-50, and it turns out they always pick 27. When prompted why, they'll tell you a whole bunch of reasons, such as it's a cube number, it's in the middle but not exact, etc. Clearly bullshit, but everyone in the room seemed to accept their explanation. Why would they even need to explain that if they weren't constantly trying to cover their ass that they don't know what they're doing?

In another news: IBM CEO says there is 'no way' spending trillions on AI data centers will pay off at today's infrastructure costs. Krishna was skeptical of that current tech would reach AGI, putting the likelihood between 0-1%. Growing number of people in tech calling it overhyped tech and no AGI is possible with current tech. Yet, we see Microsoft going crazy and ruining all products https://www.businessinsider.com/ibm-ceo-big-tech-ai-capex-data-center-spending-2025-12
When Yann LeCun, Meta computer scientist working on AI, said that AGI is a fool's dream with current technology, Mark Zuckerberg made his life at Meta difficult, and now he is leaving. Several other high-profile leaders have been skeptical of AGI. Marc Benioff said that he was "extremely suspicious" of the AGI push, analogizing it to hypnosis. Google Brain founder Andrew Ng said that AGI was "overhyped," and Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch said that AGI was a "marketing move".

Orion was a neighborhood feral I'd fed daily for months. After six months I realized how much I'd miss her if she didn't show up and took responsibility for her. Through a local non-profit Trap-Neuter-Release agency, she was neutered, vaccinated, and flea-treated. Our relationship began.
I was uncertain if she'd adapt to indoor living and was resigned to resuming our "old" relationship if necessary.
At this time last year she was hiding in the back of a small drawer most of the time. She was frightened, I couldn't touch her.
We built our relationship at her pace. I never tried to grab her. It took months before she initiated contact, longer before I could pet her, and look at her now, cuddling on my lap!
Silly kitty's favorite food: raw kale. She asks for it, steals it, jumps into the fridge to nab it, and prefers it over cheese.
Although she's still timid, she's also affectionate, playful, and delightful!
I'm glad she came to live with us.
