Doea anyone in the #PDX area want a free monitor? I have a Dell P2715Q I'm not using, it's a 27" 4K display, I believe it has HDMI and DP inputs, but no USB-C. There's a crack in the base of the OEM stand, it's otherwise in good condition and works.
Boosts appreciated if you're in Portland or have a lot of Portland followers!
@ieure Wow, that'll be a pretty sweet deal for somebody.
@spitfire I just don’t think this is something most phone users were really missing. A lot of people probably don’t even know what aperture is, and those who do usually care enough about photography to use a proper camera.
I’d rather see Apple focus on increasing sensor size. With such a small sensor, the real optical bokeh effect from changing aperture will be pretty limited anyway, if noticeable at all. So to me, this feels more like a marketing feature than a meaningful photographic upgrade.
@mczachurski fair point. I’m not sure how easy/expensive it is to put a bigger sensor in a phone.
@freakazoid I use CNAMEs for like www. and such, but I have 20+ domains, each of which have to have @ updated.
@north 😱
Perhaps the largest change for me if I pick up a Duo: I have to swap my wallet and phone pockets 😭
For close to two decades (!!) it’s been phone left, wallet right for me. But the Duo is decidedly a right handed phone and early impressions I’ve seen say there are no settings to swap that.
Two decades of muscle memory… damn. 😆
@chartier I keep wondering what happens if you just turn it upside down.

@markwyner
Two people sharing a moment of joy ...that's a wonderful photograph .😊
@serapath That's basically it. The credit-slit makes it a basic income and a self loan from one credit a day over a lifetime. I tried to keep it simpler, suggestions welcome. The percentages and delegation at stages in life were after-thoughts.
The hard part is securing identity into a hardware quorum using multi-factor attestation of life and attestation of the multiple devices for redundancy that digitally represent it, along with other devices they transact with, all offline.
@craigoverend hm... i get multi device offline, .. but whats multi factor attestation of life?
and even if you have that... what i dont get is how it is issued and who you borrow against? ...if a community accepts the rules, imho how do you prevent sybil attack?
Rumpelstiltskin was not the only dwarf who was a creepy weirdo about his name.

@markwyner this is a glorious photo (&beard), thanks for sharing the moment 🥰 and sending love through the ether to your friend.
@Thayer thank you. It’s weird having met someone and then having no way to communicate with them. Just strange is all.
@eldaking If it's a reality we can't change, then we will continue to not matter except where corporations decide to exploit us for all eternity.
The thing that's missing from the equation is *leadership*. Software engineers, on average, make bad leaders. If they made good leaders they wouldn't be choosing to spend all day talking to computers instead of humans.
@eldaking I guess another way to put it is that there is no way open source is ever going to do a better job than capitalism at serving a consumerist mentality, and we are wasting our limited resources by even trying.
Google had this problem within SRE because they gave so much freedom to people to develop and use whatever tools they felt they needed. Eventually, there was way too much effort going into maintaining overlapping toolsets, and moving around became harder than it needed to be because there was a good chance you'd need to learn a whole new set of tools.
They let the engineers handle most of the actual tool evaluation, and people could put together initial teams and funding proposals, and then directors would decide based on those proposals what it made the most sense to fund and what it made the most sense to kill. I left before the impact was really known, but I am pretty sure the end result was fewer, better, more consistent tools. It was certainly headed that direction given how many issues my team fixed in the tool we took ownership of.
I see Charlie Kirk died this time last year!
…
Good riddance.
It was a very good riddance. We need more of them.
Time to update your Android devices: extensions are here. 🔥
@Vivaldi
Whats crazy is that Vivaldi mobile has progressively gotten so good, for me extensions aren't needed.
NEW: As delegates gather at NATO headquarters to discuss reducing civilian harm during combat, the Trump administration's absence from a group the U.S. co-founded is being dubbed "humiliating" and “dangerous” by current and former officials.
