After yesterday’s keynote, I’m increasingly convinced Apple has completely lost the plot.
They launched the iPhone Air… and a year later it’s already missing. Now we have the iPhone Duo, because apparently the tech industry desperately needed Apple to discover foldables seven years late.
A $2,000 phone that folds in half, with a visible crease right down the middle. Revolutionary. 🍎
@jrcruciani Maybe the iPhone Air will come back in spring. But if it does, that only makes it feel even more like a second-tier product.
And then there’s the lineup: iPhone 18, 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 18 Air, 18 Duo, 18e… who is supposed to keep track of this?
Ironically, this is exactly the kind of product chaos Steve Jobs cleaned up when he returned to Apple.
Then there’s Apple Watch: basically the same piece of tech jewellery again, while competitors have been making far more interesting watch-shaped watches for years.
And variable aperture on an iPhone camera? Cute. Professionals already have Sony, Nikon, Hasselblad, huge sensors, real glass and actual bokeh.
Apple Music has Lossless that’s awkward to even use properly on an iPhone.
Who exactly is steering this ship? 😅
I’m slowly realizing that I’ve been drifting away from Apple without really planning to. I listen to Apple Music Lossless on a FiiO M21, use B&W headphones after two pairs of AirPods Pro and one AirPods Max died on me, and wear an Amazfit because 30 days of battery beats 3.
And if I want to adjust the aperture, I’ll just pick up my Sony A7 IV. You know… a camera. 😅🍎
@mczachurski I gave up when their options for visual impairment were 'we'll make the screen taller' 🙄 my 2011 MBP then decided the battery was gonna be a spicy pillow admittedly only in 2025 (I'd done an SSD + extra RAM)
@mczachurski what’s wrong having this in a phone? You know, not everyone needs/wants a separate camera.
@spitfire I just don’t think this is something most phone users were really missing. A lot of people probably don’t even know what aperture is, and those who do usually care enough about photography to use a proper camera.
I’d rather see Apple focus on increasing sensor size. With such a small sensor, the real optical bokeh effect from changing aperture will be pretty limited anyway, if noticeable at all. So to me, this feels more like a marketing feature than a meaningful photographic upgrade.

@mczachurski I also use a real camera so I picked up the Air last year since what mattered to me iba phone was weight and size.
Sad to see it's already gone.
