wtf happened to the #mastodon (mastodon.online) interface?
Did an update go wrong? It looks odd on my (small screen) phone interface, but on desktop it is near unusable. Lots of wasted space, and only two or three posts visible at a time (used to be seven or so). No search box either. Any idea?! #UI #fediverse
I can and might switch. But that's not my real problem here. I want Mastodon and the Fediverse to grow and be welcoming as a good social forum.
What this update does is creating a platform to broadcast, like X, Threads and somewhat Bluesky. That's not the type of place I care for as I neither want to be a broadcaster or a passive follower.
@Pepijn @tops @phanpy @MastodonEngineering As a member of the team, could I ask what about the new design makes you feel like it's a place to broadcast vs a forum?
@Gargron Hej. It's the removal of functionality beyond simple UI changes. Couple things I just spotted:
-search (I can now find it, but only after someone told me. Bit like how Apple claims their interface is intuitive and then hides an undo menu behind a three buttoned long press)
-On desktop: small sharp text but a lot of white space and stats: even many comments to posts require scrolling where before they didn't.
