I am really happy with how Lemmy works, as a more focused place for discussion in general.

I wonder why I have to use Mastodon too, though, for just the odd feature not in Lemmy. It looks like Lemmy is only a small step away from being a better Mastodon too - support posting outside of communities, and subscribing to accounts.

BTW, in a network with #NomadicIdentity, using both #Mastodon and #Lemmy (and #Peertube, etc.) wouldn't be an issue.

CC @strypey for comments 🙂

@strypey my feeling is we haven't yet begun to see what a fully developed #fediverse looks like (including in this definition #atproto, decentral/distributed protocols but also forgotten "low-tech": anything that can be interoperable)

The current adoption landscape ( #rss, #bluesky, #mastodon) highlights various technical possibilities but doesnt span whats possible, nor what is needed.

These three datapoints define a plane of possibilities but the actual space is probably much bigger.

You can automatically hide posts containing certain words, phrases, hashtags or emoji by using Mastodon's Filters feature. Filters can be set to either hide posts completely or hide them behind a content warning.

Lots more info on how to use Mastodon's filters in the guide at:

Hopefully this guide covers all the most commonly asked questions about filters. If there's something missing, please let me know in the replies 🙂

Hey fedi, I need some help!

I am trying to connect an application I am making with the Fediverse. When I search for an actor I am successfully able to get to the profile (yay) but when I search for a post I cannot find it.

I am receiving the GET request and am sending the response with the content type ("application/activity+json") (for example):

{
"@context":"https://www.w3.org/ns/activitystreams",
"name":"New Note",
"type":"Note",
"id":"https://critters.jpleite.eu/posts/1",
"attributedTo":"https://critters.jpleite.eu/users/1",
"content":"Hello there!",
"to":[]
}

Why would Mastodon not display the post?
The on Mastodon’s side is returning 403 action not allowed.

Thank you

I continue to think about decentralized networks. And I'm wondering, among other things, if we need squares or courtyards, and why good metaphors play a role in wise decisions.
