@daniel I've been an xmpp user since the jabberd1.4 days. So many things have happened since then in xmpp-world.
Thank you for being such a large part in making it practically viable to make xmpp usable in everyday life today.
And congratulations that you could make it into a commercial success as well.
@daniel I've previously bought it on google play as that's been the easiest way to give support but switched over to the f-droid version after reading this.
Might eventually migrate my grandma to the playstore version for ease of updates though.. She's on the f-droid version today because she doesn't want to give google her payment info..
Different needs for different people I guess.. wishing all the best 🙂

@daniel You have just helped in so many ways. I was very afraid of not being able to install a Jabber client easily on newcomers devices because of the upcoming policy. This will help very much in my campaign for Jabber in my local community. You are the best!

If you want to show google, the way to do so is to not list it on the played store and also work out how to compile the f-droid version without google's proprietary computer.

@pepintheshort @daniel Yes, it's available on f-droid gratis, but f-droid does not use a free software SDK/compiler to build things - it uses google's proprietary SDK instead; https://f-droid.org/docs/Installing_the_Server_and_Repo_Tools/#proprietary-non-free-libraries
There is a free rebuild of the SDK available, which is compiled from the SDK source code google provides, but as the free SDK does not correspond to google's proprietary SDK, builds can fail, requiring modifying the program to work with the free SDK - thus fdroid uses the proprietary SDK.

@Suiseiseki @pepintheshort I maintain my position that Linux on Mobile is the ultimate goal but nobody benefits from me stopping work on Conversations before Linux on Mobile is ready. If you want to give #postmarketos a shot Dino already works quite well. There is no long term future in Android.

Lets all be honest. Conversations is the reason XMPP stays relevant. Since around 2019 I am hosting the communication of my family with prosody and everyone uses conversations. It's an app made for normal people, not for geeks. And that's essential to reach everybody.
