Like a number of famous schools, Syracuse University is a business, whose major subsidiaries are sports franchises. It has a sideline in overpriced education

@ProPublica I started at Syracuse in 1989. I was one of those student protesters who forced the university to take actual action to help prevent rapes and help survivors. It distresses me to see how little has changed in the 30+ years since graduating.

And just to shine a spotlight on their PR flack's lies, the first thing the previous chancellor did when he arrived on campus was to eliminate the rape counseling center that we fought so hard to establish, saying that he felt it was duplicative of other counseling services on campus. This neglect has continued into the current administration who is slashing majors, programs, and services as the university has missed its enrollment targets for the past two years and finds itself in financial precarity.

I grew up in Syracuse, have had a strong identification with the university my entire life, and have always been a proud alumnus since my graduation, despite seeing first hand the problems that the university has during my time there. I am no longer proud to identify with this absolute disaster of an institution. Shame on the whole lot.
