New: The LAPD, the third-largest police department in the United States, let its contract with surveillance giant Flock expire this weekend, citing "serious concerns" with civil liberties and privacy.
Flock said it was surprised by the move, but it's not clear if the company's license plate readers will immediately cease recording.

@zackwhittaker I’ll believe it when the cameras have been removed. Otherwise they’re blowing smoke up our asses… as authority figures with guns are prone to do.
@zackwhittaker they won't. Fortunately, with no contract, their infrastructure is now illegally occupying public utility pole space, is a threat to public safety, and can legitimately be removed by any private citizen.

LAPD has never had "serious concerns with civil liberties and privacy" before so it must be a cost thing.
@zackwhittaker What is stopping Flock from just selling their LA camera data to ICE instead? Can LA force them to turn off the cameras?
