Image of the sun and the crescent moon floating in black space, composited from two separate photos. The moon is at the bottom half of the image and appears larger and closer, oriented so that the horns of its crescent point downward. Its craters are visible — sharper and more detailed at the terminator line between light and shadow. The sun rises above and appears smaller and farther away (though it’s much closer than its correct astronomical distance). Sunspots are visible on its yellow glowing surface. The composition is inspired by the opening shot of Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Photos taken with an iPhone 15 attached to a Celestron 130mm-aperture reflector telescope.
