Following on from this and some #FediForum desires...

If I want a website and a social hub is it better to use a .com (or similar) for my website and then .social to put, for example, PeerTube, PixelFed, possibly Bonfire, and maybe the VocalCat Hub when that's self-hostable on?

Is it bad to use one domain for tonnes of stuff?

Does this question show how non-techy I am?!

I think I asked this before but while I lay here recovering from a short walk, does anyone have any email host recommendations?

I'm currently with EcoHosting because of their green credentials but they're now using AI which is about as un-green as you can get so am looking to move.

I am not techy so need somewhere with tech support so it's minimal stuff for me to do to manage it.

@alexisbushnell Completely possible to run multiple things off one domain, e.g. I have a Wordpress base blog (thegeoff.net) but can run individual projects on their own pages (thegeoff.net/stellarsynth). Running multiple, complex bits of software (say, a Wordpress install and a Mastodon install) may be easier done with subdomains, but there's no "right" way. Hosts will be more/less helpful with automation, but it's all doable if you have a "proper" server, as opposed to pure GUI website.

@alexisbushnell An advantage to using different domains is it makes it more simple to compartmentalise things, so if a pixelfed instance goes viral and runs out of resources your blog will stay up etc.

@alexisbushnell Always useful to make sure the account shuts down rather than bills you if you suddenly get a billion requests and aren't a large business ;)
