Heeeeey there Wandering.shop'ers ...
Yer Proprietor spent a dense 72 hrs in Vancouver at #Fedicon ... and 36 more sleeping off the damage from the budget redeye home...
I'd like to remind you how AMAZING the wandering.shop community is, and to let you know how much you were an inspiration for the talk I did on the less-than-technical side of the #fediforum event, which was a discussion of how we can connect the concept of Third Spaces/Third Places to our online world.

On this #FediForumFriday, note that #FediForum is not the only event for the Fediverse and the Open Social Web. We try to track them at https://fediforum.org/events
Today, for example, is the first day of FediCon, an in-person meeting in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Good luck, #FediCon!

So apparently there's this big #FediForum coming up tomorrow & on weekend in #VancouverBC. I was thinking about attending for a few hours as 2 of the nonprofits not on Mastodon yet were willing to pay for me to go. Unfortunately - the organizers seem to be very #ableist.
I sent a direct question about their #CovidSafety protocols because their event site info had ZERO info for concerned people who don't want to catch covid at any forum/convention. No answer at all. This lack of providing public information on #Covid & how they plan to mitigate, lack of answers on my direct public safety question -> top shelf #ableism.
This event isn't #inclusive.
Don't advertise this #FediForum as #inclusive if any of you planning to attend this #ableist FediForum are too cowardly to speak out even ONCE for #PeopleWithDisabilities.
Don't fucking tell me that you're anti-ableist either - if you can't even speak out about this absolute lack of consideration for disabled folks. In addition to ignoring a direct question about covid safety to main organizer - who, by the way, doesn't use #AltText either.

It's #FediForumFriday- your reminder to check in with projects you're excited about, ask for or offer help, or just chat with the folks you met and refresh the joy and motivation you felt at #FediForum.
🧵
The world needs a secure, open source alternative to Facebook private posting (i.e. to friends only), but nothing on the fediverse really fills the need today, alas. At the Fediforum in June, I gave a short presentation on FriendSafe, a social media system I've written that supports private posting. It's a proof of concept that works today, but it would need major UX work and a security review before it's really ready for widespread use. It has a few other features I haven't seen in other social media yet, and which I'd love to see added to other projects.
In this thread is that 10-slide presentation, one slide per post. The text in the slides is the same as the text in the posts. The presentation is focused on FriendSafe, but I'm also just trying to get these ideas out there.
Let's start a conversation. Specifically, how can we move forward to get secure private posting ASAP, with full mobile support, etc.? I think this is critical to let people exit FB.
