When you call yourself an “ally,” it tells me something.
It tells me you still believe you stand outside the harm.
It signals that you see yourself as adjacent to injustice rather than fundamentally shaped by, and benefiting from, the systems, institutions, and policies that create it. It suggests that your involvement is a favor. A charitable offering. A voluntary add-on to a struggle that isn’t really yours.
But the freedoms you claim to seek are tied directly to the oppression of others.
