@pete asks:

I've a riding buddy who won't join us if any proposed route has more than a few steps of hike-a-bike. Perhaps relating to off-road riding more than other cycling disciplines, but..

Q7. Do you draw a line as to how much pushing/carrying is acceptable on a bike ride?

@ascentale @bikenite A7 #BikeNite I've never given given needing to push or carry a second thought. I think this may stem from a childhood spent living near the beach where unridable sand dunes would just be part of our day-to-day 'rides'. Nowadays, I have a few ~1 hour slogs on local routes and further afield think nothing of doing more to get to wherever I'm heading.

In this piece, Jacob Martin shares his love-hate relationship with pushing his bike and reminds us why all the effort is often worthwhile...

No, but I'm reasonably fit and able bodied (ignoring the arthritis and fibromyalgia).
I've done stuff that I've deeply regretted where I've gone wrong and had to push a bike through thick heather on a peat moorland for several miles, and last year where a shortcut involved having to push our touring bikes for 5 hours over a hill (turns out it was only suitable for MTBs). My friend says I'm no longer allowed to choose routes.

@v_perjorative @ascentale @bikenite Better to regret something you have done though, yeah? I reckon the addendum that someone's added to this sign was a touring cyclist who got caught out by a similer 'shortcut'.

@ascentale @pete @bikenite A7. I once walked 2 kms with my bike held up in front of me because the entire length of the trail was criss-crossed with spiderwebs and I got sick of getting spiders on my face. So, no limits to how far I will hike if spiders are involved
