Wyze, a chief competitor to Ring cameras wasted no time in releasing a roast of their rival's self own.

There need to be some asterisks in this burn though. To get full functionality out of your Wyze cams, you still need to send the footage through Wyze cameras. You need Wyze servers to view your live feeds, but you can indeed record straight to SD card and keep the video entirely local. Lots of people probably won't have any idea how to do that.

One of their discontinued models can function entirely with no Internet though. It's their Outdoor v2 cameras. Those cameras work off of their own base station and have a travel mode that allows you to tap into the feed directly.

I'm not sure if their other models have anything equivalent.

Unfortunately, Wyze mainly sells through Amazon, but there are plenty of second hand kits available on eBay including refurbished units directly from Wyze.

@sysop408

Buy Wyze cameras from Best Buy.

Always check Best Buy for electronics before purchasing them from Amazon. Usually the same price or less and even better free delivery. And you can return it directly to any best buy store if you want.

@mastodonmigration excellent tip! I didn't know that Best Buy carried them.

The buying them second hand off eBay also works well. Wyze sells refurbished units that way. Most of the ones I've bought that way came scuffed up a bit, but worked fine.

@sysop408

Really been pleased with Best Buy. Have not bought any electronics from Amazon in years.

@mastodonmigration @sysop408 I’m weary of buying electronics on Amazon, as I’m worried about knockoffs. It’s not always clearing who’s actually selling the product you buy there.
