Spent almost a day planning, finding accommodations & buying tickets for a family holiday to Northern Italy by train this year.
I'm quite experienced with EU train travel intricacies, after having done this multiple times before, but it really should become easier & cheaper, to make this an option for more people. Even with sites like raileurope.com it is a lot of work.
Nonetheless, very much looking forward to this holiday :)

@BjornW I use a spreadsheet to do it. And I follow closely the instructions from Seat61.com. Mark is always right.
Except that I book through the websites of the train companies. Trenitalia and their app is just fine. SBB also. Bahn.de also. SNCF also.
There are always surprises and delights. Some unexpected discount or route.
The opposite from booking with Transavia.com. It starts simple and cheap and along the way you add luggage, choose a seat end up on another date... And pay more.
