Lots of people are discussing potential replacements here, try the #Discord and #LeaveDiscord tags. The best choice among existing software depends on exactly what your community uses it for, and how, what features are bottom lines vs. nice-to-haves vs. don't care, and so on.
I get the impression a Lemmy community or a Discourse service (+ AP plugin), plus a BBB service for group voice/video, would do for some Discord use cases.
Trying out Cinny which seems to be a nicer Matrix client than Element, but it still suffers from Matrix's e2e UX problems
I've heard Zulip and Rocket Chat mentioned before
@rubenwardy it depends on the use. For communities without VoIP features? Matrix is nice. Clients like FluffyChat and Cinny make it very usable.
For gaming/voip? Nope.
@jsalvador @rubenwardy there is lots of work on native group calls in matrix with https://github.com/element-hq/element-call with cinny support being actively worked on as well https://github.com/cinnyapp/cinny/pull/2335
@haise @rubenwardy i remember seeing something like this on Fractal few years ago, but according to the info, is still experimental or not big enough to compare with Discord. So, still need an addon (mumble mayble?)

I used to find the Jitsi Widget in Riot/ Element quite effective, but I haven't tested that for a year or 2. There have been Mumble widgets, not sure if any are still in active development. If not, maybe time to reboot one?
What about @snikket_im? It's designed for small groups hosting their own instance, but there is a commercial hosting service that helps fund development.
@strypey tbh @snikket_im seems pretty interesting. Currently I feel like we're pushing too much things into an unstable market, but it's always cool to see there are alternatives.
In general terms, I think we will need to evaluate where is everyone moving.
