@silverspookgames I’m loving your Twitch stream!
If I played video games, I’d try Neofeud first.
The “green screens” were the cheap monocrhome phosphorous CRTs, they had to be cheap to keep the cost of personal computers down. Back in those days, the computer industry didn’t have enough confidence in their business model to enshittify their products with planned obscelescence. So a lot of those late 1970s, early 1980s computers were in production for over a decade, in the 90s it wasn’t uncommon to see a green screen computer in someone’s home or office.
The first personal computer I ever used as a kid was an Apple IIe. That green screen, like in “The Matrix,” is forever etched into my psyche as the gateway into the virtual world of the computer. The blinking cursor is alive, and it lives in the virtual computer world, and it is my minion who obeys my every command. Using the telephone to connect to the Internet, it really, really felt like how they made it look in “The Matrix.”
I am like you, though, when I do coding I have to have the black text on white background. My terminal emulator is set to the light theme as well.
@silverspookgames AI and games kind of disconnect people from meaningful thought.
To build stuff, and to organize society, requires we all have some collective set of skills. If the computer is thinking for you, then you aren’t exercising your brain, you aren’t developing your skills, the skills you need to function in a cohesive society. Doing work of any kind sharpens your mind and makes you an able and helpful member of your community.
AI is like the “antidote” to mass literacy. We spent over a century developing public schools and libraries to teach everyone to read and write, and now we have billionaires trying to erase all of that, making consumers completely dependent on AI to even think.
I completely agree with what you said on stream, keep speaking the truth!
@silverspookgames the Luddites were not anti-technology, they were against their bosses not letting them keep the profits that they earned themselves from the increased productivity that resulting from using technology to do their jobs better.
I am kind of waiting for the anti-AI people to coalesce into a new Luddite movement. We need to make the term “Luddite” cool again.
