I'm wondering why #Mastodon #PixelFed do not use #IPFS .

@nemeciii because why? that only introduces unnecessary lag/latency with no real advantage.

you still need to pin/host the file twice, so I don't really see the point.

@dansup no duplicated content in the local cache ( binary deduplication ), reduce instance request flooding by sharing the load with other instances in the federation, data integrity verification instead of trust me bro.

@nemeciii that requires clients to have IPFS installed, otherwise web gateway, what is the point.

@dansup the point would be that the Mastodon instances would be the gateway servers. The user's client would be dumdum just like today.
