it just feels like if people are fleeing TikTok now that the fascists have taken over, it would be a great time to introduce them to the fediverse 😁💙
Loops is cool, but it is still pretty rough. By all means people should join loops:
But, it is not going to be the same experience as the slick corporate apps.
Having seen what happened when people rushed to Mastodon in 2022 expecting Twitter, think that it is important to set expectations properly.
And, attaching MEGP4 video clips to Mastodon posts works really well.
Lots of ways to distribute video nowadays.

I think your just biased towards mastodon which is a microblogging platform, not video focused
also, if you're just hearing positive feedback, then someone has created an environment where people are afraid to speak up
i would strongly urge you to get to the root of that and encourage people to provide constructive & honest feedback💙
i didn't get that sense @dansup. i wouldn't want to conflate @mastodonmigration 's feedback w/ criticism
for example, the main thing preventing me from joining #PeerTube is how difficult it is to join peertube. they can take that as criticism, or they can address it
#Loops is in beta. it's guaranteed to have some issues. that's not a criticism of loops per se
& i still believe Loops is an excellent opportunity to bring TikTokers to the #Fediverse. feedback to improve it is necessary

Not at all Dan. Loops is fantastic, and the feedback is warranted. Apologies for the 'rough' comment. And, of course, Mastodon is not primarily a video platform.
That said, recalling what happened in 2022, when so many people came here expecting the same experience and got quickly disillusioned, it seems really important to set appropriate expectations.
And to engage new users in the thrill of building something new and open, and free of corporate BS.

In November of 2022 after Musk bought Twitter there was a huge migration to Mastodon. At that time Mastodon was great, but there were rough edges and many things that were not the same as what they had been used to. Also, the technology struggled to accommodate all the new users. A lot of the newcomers had expectations consistent with commercial platforms, judged Mastodon harshly, and went back to Twitter.

true. & this will be a problem. however, if you invite #TikTok creators to come try #Loops in the beta stage, there is a chance to entice them by being in on the ground floor & having input on improvements.
just saying, if they ever wanted to have input on what they'd like to see in a social media platform, this could be their chance. that might me an enticement for some
💯 Just need to be careful that they come on board with the understanding that they will be part of building something, and not expecting it to be a plug in replacement.
yes, lots of ways to distribute videos, but that mean people have to go to lots of places. youtube & tiktok are places people can come for videos. i hope that's what they're building.
i've been looking for a #peertube instance to post videos for quite awhile. it's a real pain in the ass.

Have found that simply attaching videos to Mastodon posts is the best alternative ATM.
yeah, bc #Mastodon (or at least my instance) is limited to 40MB, i've posted some of my larger videos to my #substack
i could easily post them to my #youtube, and may ultimately do so, but since i don't care about views, i thought it would make a good opportunity to make the transition
again, finding a #Peertube instance to post to has been a pain in the ass
