I want Mozilla to succeed, but I have major concerns about the future of Firefox, and I moved to Vivaldi about a year ago. Read more of my thoughts on my blog!:

It's an illusion of choice when you pick chromium-based browsers with different flavours, as it is still the same meal. It is categorically the worst engine for privacy. Most hacks, scams and recorded incidents these days occur for users of mainly both Edge and Chrome, and it's crazy to think just how exposed users are with them, while having the largest marketshares.

Using multiple browsers is actually best practice for maintaining data sovereignty in my opinion, as "one browser to rule them all" is a slippery slope.

I was a long term Nightly user, and I paired it with Vivaldi for my tests, and kept TOR on hand just in case I encounter unusual/high-risk or unfamiliar territory.

I have gone back to using standard Firefox to surf generally, with a VPN turned on 99% of the time.
Safari is my secondary option for specific sites which I need to stay logged in for prolonged periods as I'm on a Mac for work.

So the only scenarios where I browse on chromium these days is for testing apps, or if the site I'm trying to access only functions fully on chrome, which I'm actually coming across more and more often and find deeply concerning, especially when it's an official government site or ones with sensitive data forms.

I do like Vivaldi's features, but it is still chromium (no matter how much you polish a turd) and I found that it gave me issues syncing one of my emails in-browser. When I tried removing the mail account, it didn't seem to actually delete it fully, so I uninstalled it.

Right now I have Arc on standby as my go-to Chrome replacement, but it's probably been over 2 months since I accessed anything through there, don't care for its AI, so pretty much only use it for last resort scenarios like when a site is asking to be opened in Chrome. I'm open to giving Vivaldi another go.

I do occasionally fire up Zen browser, as their development is quite intriguing, but it hasn't fully won me over from Firefox (still in beta, not on android yet)

@pirategoddess All very fair thoughts! I share many of these sentiments, including how it sucks to be a long time Firefox user and seeing Mozilla go this direction.

I've moved to Waterfox personally, but Vivaldi is definitely set as my go to if Mozilla and Gecko ever go properly belly up and Waterfox isn't able to pivot.

Waterfox had a pretty strong response to Mozilla setting AI as a focus, too:

Mozilla's pivot to AI first browsing raises fundamental questions about what a browser should be.

@heartkey they look like an interesting project, although the UI seems a bit dated.
