馃帴 Bring the house down. An abandoned cinema in England. A community of squatters had taken up residence here and granted me permission to photograph.

Sadly, things changed. Now the theatre is dark and abandoned once again; sadly, it was also vandalised and smashed up at some point along the way.

@ObsidianUrbex I do like the idea of letting homeless folk occupy unused spaces in exchange for providing a little security and maintenance. I know there was no actual "deal" to that end, but has anyone actually tried it?

(On the other hand, in some countries there may be squatting laws that could effectively penalize an owner for allowing squatters... but maybe those would be circumvented by a written "lease"? I don't know how all of that works... but I'm sure most large property-owners are just too anti-homeless-people to even consider it.)

@woozle
Aye when I visited it all seemed to be going quite well. They were running generators and kept the building secure. The local council and town were happy to honour "squatters rights" in this case.
