I have a Fairphone 5. Which degoogled OS should I install on it?

Would appreciate it if you have real world experience actually installing the OS you recommend. It's really difficult, in my experience.

@forteller /e/OS for sure to benefit from the Fairphone Camera 🙂

and if you don't want to use it, there is a switch to disable it.

@forteller jeg har SailfishOS nå på min FP4 og det fungerer meg bra! Dersom du er avhengig av en del norske Android apps, anbefaler jeg deg som mange andre her å prøve /e/OS.

@forteller I have #IodeOS on mine. Works like a charm and smooth install with their installer.

@forteller Hi, I'm a Fairphone 5 user too. I’ve tried stock Android, Ubuntu Touch, Sailfish OS, iodéOS, and I'm on /e/OS now.

It depends on your use case. If you want your camera to be fully functional, your only choice is /e/OS, as only the Murena team had access the proprietary camera driver.

With other OSes you can only take low-resolution photos. They are not bad though, but it was a slight turn-off for me.

If the camera isn’t a priority, iodéOS is great and comfortable degoogled Android.

Sailfish OS is awesome, but it won’t run any Android apps, as there is no Android app support for the FP5. Rumor has it, that it can be solved, but I haven't do it.

Ubuntu Touch is promising. It provides multimonitor support through docking stations if you need it. As a mobile device, you have to rely solely on Waydroid, which is hard on the battery. Ubuntu Touch won’t run most classic Ubuntu apps, and its own apps and browser are yet to be fully reliable.

I haven’t tried postmarketOS, but soon it will support the FP5 well. This means you’ll be able to start and receive LTE calls, and you’ll have a fully functional Linux system. However, the main camera, mobile pay, and fingerprint sensor will still not be supported.

I haven't checked CalyxOS as they keeping a short break.

@forteller

I have experience with #iodesOS on another supported device. Can recommend this option very much.

@forteller running #CalyxOS but it's on pause for now. It was really easy to install via their installer.

@forteller I'm about to buy a dumb phone to spare me this stress. However, I'm looking to degoogle my tablet ASAP and similarly hear that the OS has to be a careful choice (some Linux variant in my case). 🤔
