Having a #fairphone is fun: I've never experienced so much bonding over a device.
People go "oh, you also have a fairphone?" and start a conversation 💚 And you suddenly feel extra connected to them.

The last year I’ve been making a conscious effort to pivot away from proprietary/american tech, for a mix of reasons. I’m increasingly worried about #privacy, data collection, data sovereignity, that kind of things. Not wanting to have more or less my entire life stored on servers inside american privacy and data laws jurisdiction. Wanting to support #european tech. And, where possible, a preference for open source #foss #floss #libre software. I’ve been quite in the «apple fanboy» category for the last 20+ years, and deeply buried in the whole iCloud ecosystem. Partly because of Apple’s traditional stance on privacy, and the whole «if a service is free, you’re the product» thing. I used to look forward to #apple event keynotes like others do to football matches. The last handful of iterations of #macOS, #iOS, macs and iPhones has sparked steadily decreasing amounts of enthusiasm from me though. Anyway, the last year has seen me replace most iCloud services with @protonprivacy , my macbook pro with a @tuxedocomputers infinitybook pro running #linux, and my iPhone with a #Fairphone 6 running @murena /e/OS. And a patchwork of other services and apps to replace what I used to have. Here's a summary, and some questions to others. 1/n
Any #GPS / #android nerds wanna help me debug something?
https://gitlab.com/LineageOS/issues/android/-/issues/9652
I have two #fairphone3, one running #lineageos and the other running the default OS, and the lineageOS doesn't find GPS 99% of the time...
I'm at the edge of my knowledge and would love some suggestions for how to debug further, or if someone wants to jump on a call and try to work it out together.
My #FOSDEM talk recording from today is already public! Check it out in case you missed the talk (or didn't get into the room because it was packed full)
Edit: not fully available yet as of 20:29, check back a bit later :)

Blogged about running Linux on my phone, the user experience, and the ecosystem that comes with it. Extremely excited about this!

I think the secret-sauce is going to be having multiple SBCs operating while I am carrying them and have only the screen easily accessible. The screen lets you toggle between three inputs, so I could be actively using 3 low power sbcs while walking, and periodically check in on each of them from the one portable screen.
One or more chargers also seems more dynamic than a laptop battery.
@screwlisp very nice! What model display is that? I may want one for myself!
I am actually considering getting a second “backup” #Fairphone so that I can leave alone my daily-driver cell phone, and play around with various mobile operating systems on the backup Fairphone. But I would love to have a mobile display and keyboard to use with it, and there is a question of whether the Fairphone can support HDMI video over USB.

Die update naar /e/OS 3.4 verliep flink hakkelig. Althans, het downloaden ervan. Maar het is gelukt. De installatie zelf was zo gebeurd.
En bij die update zit ook Fairphone Moments, for what it's worth.
Dutch university to start handing out only Fairphones to employees, instead of buying iPhones or Samsung.
Looking to replace my iPhone 8, and I’m trying to decide whether to get a newer generation of #iPhone or finally switch to a smartphone with #Linux. I’m particularly interested in the #fairphone. Anyone have experiences? Recommendations? Preferred Linux distribution for phones?

So cool: @radboud University has announced to switch to #Fairphone for (all?) their employees. 🎉 They explicitly cite #sustainability, cost efficiency and management support as reasons.
