Sexual abuse has not been uncommon as many thing in #Buddhism. It's at least been known to me in the context of Japanese #Zen but in this documentary evidence of abuse and its cover up by Buddhist institutions and no less than the Dalai Lama himself is presented. I think it's well worth a watch.

@rmdes It makes me think though; what if hierarchical institutions aren't just prone to and have the potential for corruption, but what if it's an inherent and inevitable phenomenon in such structures. I don't see why not.
@apodoxus I think religions have proven this to be true beyond doubt.
but also outside of religions, politics, culture, whenever there is patriarchy, abuse, coercion and worst will enfold. Buddhism is particularly vicious due to its badge of innocence and "not a religion" branding
@rmdes Well, I think we have different standards of evidence because I still have many doubts that it is universally inevitable. It certainly seems more and more plausible to me as time goes on though.
