Stranger Things and Star Fleet Academy are Gen X nostalgic wish fulfilment -- What if we had the freedom we had in the 1970s/1980s, but also had parent who cared about us?

(the big difference between ST/SFA and The Goonies or ET is that the adults are actually characters we know about rather than just plot obstacles to overcome)

@otfrom You remind me I should try to finish ST (stopped after season 3) and and Star Trek: Discovery (got stuck early in season 3). I think I read somewhere that SFA is something like a sequel to it.

I'm not Gen X (born in the early 80s, and frankly I learned about those western gen terms relatively late in life), but things in Bulgaria happened with so much delay (compared to western Europe and the US) that I felt quite nostalgic when watching Stranger Things. Many of the soundtrack songs were super popular here in the 90s. :D

@bbatsov SFA is a sequel to the later seasons of Disco. I enjoyed them and think they are worth watching and they do add to SFA (as do Voyager and Star Trek Prodigy).
