Well Starfleet Academy s01e07 was a real disappointment. In classic Trek both the Khaionian wedding and the bridge hacking would have been B plots, at best. Character colour-ins, accompanying more substantial episode-carrying A plots. Watching 2 B plots try to out-gag and out-cliche each other is 55 minutes I'm never getting back.

Watched the first couple of episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy last night, and really enjoyed them.
Was expecting to see Tilly (from Discovery), but maybe she'll pop up soon.
A fun series so far, with laugh out loud moments as well as the usual ST drama! 🌠😊
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy
I think it is written by and for people who actually enjoyed high school.

My friend Ben Blacker of Thrilling Adventure Hour fame has a lovely discussion about Starfleet Academy with Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau and the creation of the show. It's a neat look at the minds behind the show and why it is like it is.

I've been around Star Trek long enough to know that every new iteration gets a lot of hate. Starfleet Academy is no different, unfortunately.
For me, so far I've enjoyed it ... mostly. I did not care for episodes 3 and 4, 1 and 2 were good, but as a huge fan of DS9, I loved episode 5. I can tell that Tawny Newsome co-wrote it.
There were other bits to it too, but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't watched it. (The DS9 bit is not a spoiler.)

Tawny Newsome has writer credit on next week's Starfleet Academy episode, along with long-time Star Trek writer Kirsten Beyer. That is all.
