@madeindex Are those people really stuck on that point or is there actually nothing you can say to convince them of anything?
My child is at the point where his classes involve discussion of world news. He recently told me there’s no point in learning anything because global warming is going to ruin everything, AI will take the jobs, and he can’t make a large impact on any of these issues (we had a long discussion about this and I don’t yet know how much of his view on this has changed).
Meanwhile, my mom thinks god will take every believer to heaven, my stepfather thinks global warming is mostly a hoax by solar/wind companies to make more money, and my brother thinks AI will save us all. This group has only budged on climate issues by moving the goalposts (they started with “it’s fake”, then “it’s natural sun cycles”, then “capitalism/god will save us”), so my personal, anecdotal experience is that the people that I know that care are borderline giving up (including my spouse), and the people that don’t care have so much faith in god/money saving them that nothing is really changing.
