Microsoft Office renamed to "Microsoft 365 Copilot app"
Microsoft Office renamed to "Microsoft 365 Copilot app"
@jbz and they had to waste money on this instead of selling skype back to an estonian company.
@jbz Can't wait to retire from my corporate job and move from Microsoft 365 to Microsoft 0.
@jbz holy fuck, i thought you were shitposting!
@jbz What is Microsoft? 😎
@jbz Oh wow... You're... not lying...
Office has been a chief Microsoft product since forever. To actually kill it off... Wow...
I can imagine in the future when people ask why such a huge corporation toppled, a lot of people will point to this moment specifically as the point at which it was officially in its death spiral.
@jbz the guy picking names for Microsoft stuff must be Bill Gates nephew or something like that, is the only explanation on why hasn't been fired yet
@jbz lmao, RIP. Microslop finally killed office.
@jbz I guess they're just doubling down on AI branding since the "Microslop" incident 😂
@jbz Wow, Microsoft is pushing their AI crap so hard they need to be careful not to get a prolapse.
@jbz Why don't they just cut to the chase and call it Bucket of Shit You Didn't Want.
@jbz Wow. If anyone had any reservations about microsoft's enshittification, wonder no more, they're cooked.
@jbz They killed the office brand in 2020 when they renamed it to just Microsoft 365 (I wish I were at that meeting where they decided to kill one of the best known brands worldwide).
But that really takes the cake - did they come to that conclusion with the help of Clippy?
@jbz It's hilarious, Microsoft makes billions because every company in the world uses their office suite and they're going to just piss it all away.
@jbz LOL
I'll probably get accused of mansplaining for pointing out that they're just effectively rebranding Office as AI to further the investment scam.
@jbz This comes when the original idea does not fly .... the cash cow need to be sloppifyed 🙈 - Whats next - CoPilot Windows 365, which requests to "prompt" your login 🙈
@jbz My guess this is so MS can claim more people are using Copilot.
If you can't win the argument, move the goalposts, I guess?
@jbz I made a prediction some years ago (in the context of Meta, Alphabet, X etc.) that Microsoft will eventually call itself 365 in the future. It hasn't become more unlikely since. Maybe even "1" 🤷
@jbz Next week, it'll be a Spirit Halloween!
@jbz the little star...
Adult Students get the "we won't steal your stuff" version for free, that's nice. Shame about everyone else. The kids get spied on and hoovered up into the slop machines training.
@jbz next Facebook will rename their company name into something related to that metaverse thing. Oh wait.
@jbz Microslop 365 Copilot Slapp
@jbz Hadn't that happened about half a year ago already?
@jbz you have got to be shitting me.
This is what desperation looks like.
@jbz nah please dont say this is true :)
@jbz holy shit I thought you were joking. They've cashed in and binned 30+ years of brand identity and familiarity to sell copilot. That's bonkers
Same. It took me a good long while to realise this wasn't a parody.
Unbelievable, the best-known brand in office software thrown away to prop up Microsoft's short term share price.
It would be like Musk buying Coca-Cola and renaming it "Grok Juice".
@jamesravey @jbz Copilot is just a shiny layer on top of ChatGPT (quite literally). Microsoft has already committed to paying OpenAI $13 billion and their ownership stake in OpenAI is estimated to be worth $135 billion. I think that they just really *REALLY* want to make Copilot work out for them.
@joe @jamesravey they can also claim Office profits as AI profits, sidestepping the annoying problem of Copilot bleeding money all across MS products.
@jbz @jamesravey Most of their Office profits comes from subscriptions and as of January 16 of last year, Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions worldwide include Copilot. (They just increased the price to cover their extra costs). I have read a lot of speculative reporting that the $20/mo isn't enough to cover the costs for the service, though.
It's possible that they see that they're losing money per user, so they are trying to make up for it by increasing the number of users? 🤷♂️
@joe @jbz @jamesravey to add for precision's sake, there was a way to opt out of the "upgrade" and keep old subscription without AI. Not sure if that's possible for new subscribers tho.
@b00g13 @joe @jamesravey 2021 ends in october, 2024 has some AI features but not like the current shiny copilot edition.
@jbz @joe @jamesravey destroying a huge external brand to solve short-term internal politics
@davidgerard @jbz @joe @jamesravey Which is good tho. I want to see them die. I want to see Office be destroyed forever.
@davidgerard @jbz @joe @jamesravey Did you see the little asterisk in the headline?
@loke @jbz @joe @jamesravey solve* short-term internal politics
@jbz paging @davidgerard if he's not already seen it
@jamesravey @jbz I knew they were essaying "Copilot 365"
