From dodgy age verification to censorship, the UK Online Safety Act has gone wrong.

That's why over 500k people have told the government to think again.

MPs will debate this petition on 15 December.

@openrightsgroup "Will debate"... yes, if you mean 2-3 clowns from each party (only) will do charades in the echoing Commons chamber, and the short straw-drawing UK PLC representative will just reiterate the polite version of "get fucked" (that the petition has already received) and get round-filed.

That's the fate of every petition that dares breach the 100K signature "debate" threshold to date, after all. Representative democracy is a dream we all want, but don't have.

The UK Online Safety Act is already producing harmful unintended consequences.

ORG urges MPs to support a more balanced, evidence-based and rights-respecting approach that protects children without harming freedom of expression, privacy or the existence of small sites.

@openrightsgroup

I think your six recommendations are all great. In fact, I'd add one for data privacy and one to legally require transparency/user control over algorithms.

That said, I still think #OSA is a key first step in regulating techbros. So, let's not trash talk OSA - which only helps the techbros.
