Manicomio di R. A former neuropsychiatric hospital somewhere in #Italy. Terminology that reflects a bleak chapter in medical history, "manicomio" meaning "madhouse".
The institution opened in the 1870s. A research lab, radiology, electrotherapy rooms, dental care, an operating theatre and a chapel are later additions.
Italy鈥檚 new national health system in the 1980s saw all these "mental asylums" close.
