These #politicians and their #poverty #porn posts of eating on "$6/person/day", when they have *clearly* never actually had to live on a tight #budget, let alone a #SNAP #FoodStamps budget.
Last night, I bought 12 chicken drumsticks for $0.99/lb, or $4.27 for 4.31 lbs (1.955 Kg) of drumsticks. That's enough meat for six adult portions, and the skin and bones make their own sauce while you cook them.
No one is walking away from my table #hungry or disappointed and dissatisfied.
I should probably mention that SNAP benefits are nonetheless insufficient for most people. I happen to have had the privilege of not always being poor, so I have cooking equipment and cooking skills.
But, I also wisely arranged my life such that I live in an urban cluster with no car, so there's a major expense out of my life, yet I have no fewer than 4 major markets within relatively easy bicycle range of my home (< 5 miles), and some smaller markets, as well.
I definitely do not want to give the impression that people receiving SNAP benefits are able to do what I do. This is a criticism of politicians who have no idea what it's like to be poor, not of poor people, of which I am.
I advocate for land value tax, universal basic income, universal healthcare, universal education, and universal housing鈥攁ll with no eligibility testing whatsoever.
Everyone deserves these entitlements, because they are entitled to them, even if they choose not to "work".
