"A mileage-based charge for electric and plug-in hybrid car drivers from 2028 and a short-term freeze in fuel duty are among the key changes announced in the Autumn Budget 2025"
So am I right in thinking that this #budget has penalised electric cars and benefited fossil fuel vehicles?
That seems... Highly counter-productive.

Disappointed that the #Budget did not tax the things I really wanted taxing:
Vapes (including an extra 5000% more tax for those vapes that have 'fragrance' ... and I use that term loosely!) Nobody wants a face full of candy floss lung excretions when walking down the street.
Anyone playing that feckin' Mariah Carey #Christmas song (in fact, I'd throw them in jail, or subject them to a good old fashioned ducking stool). Double for those playing it in November!
Torture me, I'll torture you back
The UK Cyber Security and Resilience Bill is also a chance to assess and reduce the UK’s dependence on large US corporations for vital government infrastructure.
Other countries like France and the Netherlands are already debating how to do this, such as through open source software.
As we saw with the AWS outage, we need digital sovereignty to keep the UK economy switched on.

Office for Budget Irresponsibility has leaked the #budget early…
"Fuel duty to be frozen until next September"
"A new mileage tax on electric vehicles"
Brilliant double whammy of first policies out the bag. Meanwhile in Norway –driven by tax incentives– EVs were 96% of car sales in June (https://mobilityportal.eu/norway-96-9-market-share-evs/)
Ignoring the climate & PR idiocy of disincentivising EVs over petrol, I still don't get why Labour desperately chases Reform voters while giving the Green Party the easiest of wins.
The UK government must take cybersecurity seriously to get growth.
Key to this is strong encryption for all.
They must put guarantees in the UK Cyber Security and Resilience Bill and quit trying to force a backdoor into secure systems like they did with Apple.
Otherwise we'll be open to more attacks.

Tomorrow, whilst the media is busy scrutinising the #Budget, the #DWP will publish the #TimmsReview the promised framework review of how #PIP is measured.
Given that the DWP has chosen budget day to release this, one is led to think the changes are not positive.
(Keep an eye out for other announcements tomorrow - there may be the result of the #PalestineAction judicial review being announced; although that is more likely to be on the Thursday)

I've just written to my MP expressing my horror at the increased tax on EVs in yesterday's budget.
Not the only bad thing in the budget (though TBF, there were some good things as well), but it's the one that stands out for me as being particularly harmful.

Seeing safeguards over our data as barriers to growth is folly.
The UK's new Data Act has put into question the adequacy agreement with the EU.
Losing it would impose £1-1.6 billion in legal and compliance costs on UK businesses alone, as well as threaten EU-UK trade agreements and the Windsor Framework.
