Today reminded me that I still have work to do.
I attended a professional/friend event and if you know me, you know how rare that is. Rare enough that when I show up, people are genuinely surprised.
The conversation started off light, low-stakes, easy to maintain. But as often happens, it took a turn. One of those sharp lefts where suddenly you realize you’re no longer having a conversation and it feels like you’re defending your right to exist.
And in that moment, I felt my body go into fight or flight.
Each time I chose flight, another question came.
Another demand.
Another expectation to justify myself…my work, my values, my way of being in the world.
And under it all, what I felt most was unsafe.
Because the truth is, I’ve spent most of my life surrounded by people who believe that everything can be explained, proven, or reasoned into submission. People who think that every experience can be reduced to an equation:
A + B = C.
That if they can just analyze or debate it long enough, they’ll find the “truth.”
But that’s not how liberation works.
That’s not how humanity works.
Everything I do, every choice I make, personally and professionally, is rooted in my commitment to building a world free of supremacy, coercion, discrimination, and exploitation.
And that kind of world doesn’t emerge from logic alone.
It requires intuition.
It requires honoring the wisdom of lived experience, even, especially, when you can’t understand it.
It requires authenticity, not performance.
What I’m realizing is that the more I embody this work, the more uncomfortable it becomes for those who still live by the myth. The myth that everything is a competition to win, a system to master, a problem to solve.
I’ve stopped trying to explain myself to people who can’t yet imagine a world beyond control and certainty.
And I’m learning to accept that we’re all, myself included, going to have to get used to it.
Because building a new world means refusing to be reduced to a formula. It means trusting what’s real, what’s felt, what’s true…even when others can’t see it yet.
