I know that a lot of folx in the U.S. woke up this morning with a bit of the weight we’ve been carrying for a year lifted.
A year ago today, my life quite literally fell apart.
This is no exaggeration because for three days, I could not walk.
My body simply stopped.
After years of working toward equity, justice, and care in the workplace, I had to face the truth that the very harm I’d dedicated my life to preventing, the intentional pain and violence required to sustain the myth of white supremacy, was now inevitable.
And in that moment, I had a choice.
I could turn away.
I could close my heart.
I could protect myself by leaning into the same fear that drives so much of the harm we see around us.
Or I could choose something else.
I could choose love.
So I did.
I made a conscious decision to keep my heart open, even in the face of destruction. To run toward love, not away from it. Because I knew that if I let fear define me, the myth would claim yet another victim and I refused to be one.
This past year has been about extending myself grace, practicing unconditional love, and allowing myself to heal enough to remember what I came here to do.
To build.
To teach.
To lead.
To create the world that is free from supremacy, coercion, discrimination, and exploitation.
That’s what the Profit Without Oppression economic theory and the Life Beyond the Supremacy Myth framework is for.
That’s what this work has always been about.
Because even after an election that offers a moment of relief, the deeper truth remains:
our liberation, our healing, our future depends on our ability to understand that our individual value is inescapably tied to one another.
We either move forward together or not at all.
So today, and everyday moving forward, may you choose love over fear.
Courage over comfort.
Collective care over individual protection. 💛
