In what way(s) are you NOT typically autistic?
I'll start:
While I don't always super enjoy it, I really, really appreciate small talk. Having a socially approved script for interacting with strangers makes life so much easier for me than trying to create a conversation from nothing!

@elaurian one of my special interests at uni was discourse analysis
I actively studied how to make conversation, and I got very good at it

@elaurian my degree is in linguistics; I specialized in pragmatics and discourse analysis, and in hindsight it was definitely an "I was just diagnosed with autism and I need to study social interactions" thing
@WizardOfDocs It's really interesting to me how many of us end up studying linguistics, communication, and psychology.
@elaurian I don't remember facts and stuff about my special interests. I can't list a load of dates or names or whatever. For me it's more deep understanding of the topic, I can talk about it and it lights me up, but it's how it works rather than a load of facts.
