This is appalling. #Sweden is abdicating its obligations under the Vienna Convention to protect and support one of its citizens abroad. If you’re Swedish, I hope you’re organizing and calling your elected officials and representatives. I hope you give Maria Malmer Stenergard, the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, an earful. Preferably, in person.
Stenergard said today Thunberg doesn’t need consular support and blamed Thunberg for saturating the consular hotline after calling on followers to pressure the government. Is she fucking kidding? That is not Thunberg’s fault. And with all due respect to every other swede abroad who might rightfully need consular services, are they on a humanitarian mission to provide aid to people under illegal occupation? The Swedish Minister needs to get a grip.
